Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.
Our optometrist takes the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Meet our doctor:
Dr. Stephen Figler attended Ohio State University and following his undergraduate degree, he graduated in 1991 from The Ohio State University College Of Optometry Summa Cum Laude. He has been practicing optometry for more than 27 years.
He belongs to the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association. His practice specialties include the treatment of red, irritated, painful eyes, diagnosing, treatment and management of glaucoma, dry eye and cataracts. He is also involved with determining the best specialty contact lenses for the most difficult prescriptions.
He always wanted to go into the medical field to make people feel better. He states, “I believe sight is the most precious gift we have and if I could make people see better and preserve peoples ability to keep their sight, what could be more rewarding. Every day I get to go home knowing I that I made someone’s life a little better by improving their vision and quality of life. It is extremely rewarding.”
One of his memorable moments in optometry came when he worked with a young man who had given up hope of every being able to see well enough to drive or get a decent job. Dr. Figler fit him with a specialty contact lens and he can now see 20/20!
Dr. Figler is a lifelong resident of Willoughby, Ohio and lives with his wife, four children and great niece. He likes boating on Lake Erie and attempting to golf. Dr. Figler says, “My son is very athletic and I am his biggest fan, so he loves going to this games.” He also enjoys going to any and all Cleveland sporting events–even the Browns. His 3 older children are on their way to interesting fields of study.
